Arle Court Transport Hub forms a key part of the £30 millionM5 Junction 10 Improvements Scheme, supporting Gloucestershire’s Local Transport Plan and long‑term carbon‑neutral ambitions. Appointed by principal contractor Kier, McCoy Contractors delivered the full groundworks package for the new multi‑storey car park, bus hub and associated infrastructure, completing ahead of programme and within budget.
The upgraded hub, designed by architects BDP, has significantly expanded park‑and‑ride capacity, introduced electric vehicle charging and provided improved passenger facilities including a café and indoor waiting area.
Working under principal contractor Kier, McCoy Contractors delivered the full groundworks package for the new multi‑storey car park, bus interchange and associated infrastructure. The project was completed on time and within budget, despite early design delays that required careful coordination and programme management.

McCoy’s involvement began once the previous contractor had completed the initial strip‑out of the old car park. From there, the team progressed with earthworks and formation, establishing a stable platform for the new four‑storey steel‑framed car park. This included constructing the below ground structures required to support the precast core units. To drive project efficiency, these below ground structural elements were cast on site by McCoy. The accuracy and reliability of this work were essential to ensuring the superstructure could be installed efficiently
An additional part of the package involved delivering the civil infrastructure for a new power substation, which provides the electrical capacity needed for the expanded transport hub. McCoy installed the bases, ducting and associated structures, ensuring the substation could be integrated seamlessly into the wider scheme. Alongside this, the team constructed a series of curved reinforced‑concrete retaining walls, designed as architectural features within the new landscape. These required precise formwork and high‑quality finishing to meet the aesthetic expectations of the design team.
Although some design information arrived later than planned, the construction phase itself progressed smoothly. Through close collaboration with Kier and the design team, McCoy maintained momentum and protected the overall programme, ensuring all groundworks were delivered to the required standard.
The upgraded Arle Court Transport Hub has significantly improved public transport connectivity across Gloucestershire, increasing park‑and‑ride capacity and providing enhanced passenger facilities. McCoy Contractors’ contribution - delivering robust, high‑quality groundworks and hard landscaping - played a key role in keeping the wider scheme on track and supporting the region’s long‑term transport ambitions.
