The £39 million regional distribution hub at Wixams in Bedfordshire marks a major expansion of B&M Retail national logistics network, establishing a new Southern Distribution Centre to support the retailer’s growing footprint across the region.

the Project.

McCoy Contractors were appointed to deliver a £9 million groundworks package, forming the essential concrete yard slab for the vast new warehouse. The project demanded a coordinated, multi‑disciplinary approach, with McCoy’s team working to tight tolerances and an accelerated programme to keep pace with the wider construction schedule.

Works included foundations, foul, storm and syphonic drainage. The services infrastructure, concrete floor slabs, external concrete yard slabs were constructed by McCoy’s team along with installation of the kerbs and edgings which were laid with placement of stone to tolerances, forming pits and bases on the site

A key feature of the project was McCoy’s commitment to innovation and value engineering. During the tender stage, the team explored a range of opportunities to enhance efficiency and reduce cost for the client. This process led to the introduction of an on‑site concrete batching plant, a strategic decision that delivered significant material savings and gave the team greater control over concrete quality and supply. The batching plant also had a major environmental benefit, eliminating more than 1,900 lorry movements that would otherwise have been required to transport concrete to site. This reduction in vehicle traffic not only lowered carbon emissions but also minimised disruption to the local community and improved overall site logistics.

Throughout the programme, McCoy worked closely with the principal contractor and other delivery partners to maintain momentum on a fast‑track build. Real‑time coordination and proactive problem‑solving ensured that each phase of work aligned with the wider construction sequence, reducing interfaces and supporting a smooth, efficient delivery.

The completed distribution hub now plays a central role in B&M’s supply chain, enabling faster stock replenishment and strengthening the retailer’s operational resilience across the South of England. McCoy Contractors’ contribution provided the structural backbone and critical infrastructure that underpin the facility’s long‑term performance. The project stands as a strong demonstration of McCoy’s capability in large‑scale industrial and logistics developments, combining technical excellence with sustainable construction practices and a clear focus on client value.
