McCoy Contractors has beenappointed by McLaren Construction to deliver the earthworks and groundworks package for a major new industrial distribution centre at Hinckley Park, Leicestershire.

Working on a 40-week programme, McCoy is responsible for extensive earthworks operations, including cut-and-fill and soil modification works, before progressing to a comprehensive groundworks package comprising drainage infrastructure, water tanks, foundations, a pump station and external yard slabs.

The award builds on a longstanding and successful partnership between McCoy Contractors and McLaren Construction, with both organisations having collaborated on a number of large-scale industrial developments across the UK.

The scale and complexity of the Hinckley Park Phase 2 development presented a number of technical and logistical challenges that required careful planning and coordination.

Key constraints included:

Working beneath overhead power lines
Managing operations around a railway bridge
Protecting a high-pressure gas main
Managing and maintaining areas of existing vegetation
Delivering significant concrete volumes while maintaining programme certainty and sustainability targets

Drawing on extensive experience of delivering large-scale industrial and infrastructure projects, McCoy developed a carefully coordinated construction strategy to ensure safe and efficient delivery throughout the programme.

McCoy Contractors delivered:

A major feature of the project is the deployment of McCoy's on-site concrete batching plant. The decision follows the successful implementation of a similar solution at the landmark TJ Morris Distribution Centre in Doncaster, a circa one million sq ft logistics development delivered in partnership with McLaren Construction. Lessons learned from that project have been applied directly at Hinckley Park to maximise productivity and project performance.

By producing concrete on-site, McCoy is able to increase productivity and programme efficiency, improve quality control and consistency and reduce dependency on external supply chains. It will also help to minimise vehicle movements to and from site, lower the environmental impact of operations and improve flexibility around weather conditions and site logistics.

The approach provides greater control over concrete production while reducing the challenges typically associated with ready-mix deliveries on projects of this scale.

The project demonstrates McCoy's ability to transfer proven innovations and best practice from previous schemes to new developments. By combining specialist earthworks expertise, robust project management and innovative construction techniques, the team is helping to drive programme certainty while supporting the sustainability objectives of the wider development. The project is also creating opportunities for local labour and regional supply chain partners, delivering wider economic benefits to the area.

The Hinckley Park Phase 2 project further strengthens the successful relationship between McCoy Contractors and McLaren Construction and reflects the company's confidence in McCoy's ability to safely deliver complex earthworks and groundworks packages while maintaining the high standards of quality, efficiency and collaboration required on major industrial and logistics developments.
